Embrace the Cross

by Chip Brogden

“Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” (Lk. 14:27)

Embrace the Cross was written specifically to call people to radical faith in Jesus and Christ-centered discipleship. This book contains nearly everything Chip has ever written about the Cross, discipleship, and following Jesus – plus some things never before published. Every chapter compels the reader to consider what being a real disciple of Jesus is all about. The goal of this book is to challenge, confront, convict, and convince both saints and sinners alike to embrace the Cross!

But what is at stake here is more than just a book. The book is simply a key that opens the door to a much larger world. In the back of the book is an invitation to visit a special website and enroll in our basic discipleship course. When you give this book to your friends, family, neighbors, or strangers that you meet, you won’t just be giving them something else to read – you’ll be giving them an opportunity to know Jesus in a deeper way. Because the book leads them to the discipleship course, and that leads them to spiritual maturity in Christ. Of course, all of it points to Him anyway.

    Hey Chip,
I just got my order today, 6 copies of Embrace the Cross, and WOW!!! I only have a few pages left, I couldn’t put it down once I got started. After 12 years of following the Lord, I am beginning to see some errors that I followed from some questionable mentoring I have received. Thanks so much for offering this book as it will truly help anyone who reads it. You can take the covers off and it is basically the Word of God, only explained a little better. When I was saved, I lost my wife, daughter, my friends and money/material posessions. He has blessed me materially, financially and spiritually, however I always equated the loss and hurt that I experienced with what it cost to be His disciple. I do understand now how and why I still struggle with some of my old sins, and have not been victorious in my walk with the Lord. I sure hope that the Lord uses you to write more on other topics, like remarriage, for instance. Anyway, thanks for sharing what the Lord has blessed you with my Brother..

    In Christ,
    Chris

I received the book and devoured it. I loved the two-fold message. I needed to understand it and you explained it well.
Thank you for the CD also, following in the footsteps of the Master. Yesterday my husband was off of work and I had an extra copy of the book still in the envelope and went to get it out because I wanted to share something with him. I saw the CD and remembered it came with my order. I said to him, “why don’t we listen to this together”? He agreed. Things began changing for us immediately. Things that have been hard to change, hidden things that only come up when we are angry.
Also, after I finished reading the book, during the night, I felt a drudgery in awakening every morning knowing I must pick up the cross and follow on that narrow path. I knew I shouldn’t feel that way and began to cry out to God.
He said to me,”When I was beaten and humiliated, Simon was forced to carry the cross for me, do you not think I will do the same for you. When it’s too much for you to bear, I will be your escape. I will carry it for you.
Thank you for your persistance in hearing from God and sharing it with the World.
    It’s a miracle for us.

We received our 6 books, in New Zealand, 7 days after you posted them – Praise God. 4 copies given away, my wife and I are reading one each. There is so much ‘food’ that we can only digest a few pages at a time, then we need to pray about the content and start to live it.
A lot of the content is not new, but it is confirmation of many truths that Jesus has shown us, and in many cases a fresh way of looking at those truths – if that makes sense..?
After 38 years of following Jesus Christ, approx two thirds ‘outside the structures’ – we continue to learn and our relationship with Father and Son deepens. He is increasing as we decrease.
We are looking forward to your web discipleship teaching… and we enjoy your webinars.
    Thankyou Chip..

I wholeheartedly agree with the others who have commented!!! This book was so amazing and so enlightening about the Cross. I have already read it twice and tell everyone about it. I need to get more copies to pass out. This is a message that everyone needs to hear and believe. Thank you for your obedience to our Lord!!

      Hi Sue,

The discipleship course is still being developed… Karla’s surgery delayed my ability to work on it, and it has taken longer than I expected. But I’m making progress, which I’ve been saying every week for the last three months. We’ll get there soon!

        Hi Chip,
        Thanks!
I am so thankful for having found your website. I found it last summer when struggling with the decision to leave the Church I was attending. The first time I picked up a Bible was just over 4 years ago and your teaching is helping me so much. I did leave the Church (charismatic) after they started teaching (women’s group) from a book that was not biblically sound.

I am just glad that Embrace the Cross is still in the works and don’t worry, I still have several webinars to catch up on and I am hoping that the next one you start I shall be able to join on-line.

Thanks again – God Bless you and Karla!!
        Sue

I was wondering if you may know the answer to “Our Father in Heaven” When saying “Our Father” taking up the Cross and not asking for Jesus to help me but to ask Jesus to do it and I will follow. Do these words imply that “Our” is Jesus and I.

The Holy Spirit truly is our Teacher! I have been so enlightened by reading “Embrace the Cross”, and was given incredible confirmation to something I read there last night. It was so freeing to me!

Bear with me for I must needs quote from the book on page 155…”A disciple of the Lord Jesus is someone who enters the narrow gate and walks the narrow path until they come to the end of the narrow path and are left with nothing but Christ,”..and also from page 170…”Entering the Gate in not the end of the journey, it is the beginning of the journey. It is at the end of the Path that one finds Life (Mt.7:14),not at the beginning.”

Take notice of the word “end”. I was singing from my hymnal this morning after last night’s reading being inclined to praise the Lord for His love and mercy for showing me this wonderful truth. The hymn that I turned to without chosing a specific one was “Footsteps of Jesus”.

The last stanza goes as follows…”Then at last, when on high He sees us, Our journey done, We will rest where the steps of Jesus End at His throne.”

With that I will end, and thank God for His daily wonderful gifts of love!!!

May His everlasting song fill your heart today and every day.

    Hi Chip,

I just finished the first reading of your new book “Embrace the Cross” I know that It will take many readings and discussions with David Malinoski before I start down the narrow Path. I bought two copies of the book and I gave one to my grandaughter who leaves for Africa in 23 days with a group of young adults from the Summit Church in Orlando Fl. I am sure this book will give strength and purpose in this missin trip. I know I will be placing another order for books soon.
