This article again is very enlightening and eye-opening. The My Will vs. God's will battle you mention... So true. We have to battle even to keep the desire for spiritual things alive. Our flesh tends to get the best of us, otherwise. We need to remind our souls, in our meditation and proclaim during our prayer time, that without Jesus we can do nothing of any spiritual significance. We need to hold on to this key truth, that it's by grace we are saved, and it's God's grace we need to live a lifestyle of death and resurrection.
I love what you say about prayer. I'm the kind of person who experiences ups and downs in prayer. Times when hours are not enough to offer more and more praise to God, and times when I'm so spiritually dry that even saying grace after meals take a conscious effort. I've found that I pray more and better when I'm aligned with God's will and desiring His plan rather than mine. When I'm feeling soulish, fleshly and weak in faith, I cannot pray at all (and feel like a hypocrite when I do). I prefer NOT to pray when I know what I'd say to God would be a lie. I just go to Him and say, "I don't want to talk to you. Sorry. I'm not in the mood. Please forgive me and revive me. Help me to repent." I'm not saying that's ok, but I think it's better than long, double-minded prayers. God knows the truth anyway. What can we hide from Him?

Hello Chip,I think the best discription you gave was in your article "Living the Christ-Life" !
You wrote:Prayer is like breathing. The spiritual man is praying all the time. Is he always on his knees whispering? No, prayer becomes an ongoing conversation with God, sometimes spoken, sometimes unspoken. You don't pray because it's time for your daily devotions, or because you're in some kind of deep trouble. You pray because your Life depends on it-your spiritual life. It wells up and overflows. That is communion and fellowship. It isn't forced, it isn't contrived, it is spontaneous. natural, flowing, free. But it may not even be expressed outwardly. It's an inward state. Nobody sees it. You're there in the Secret Place of the Most High !!!!
I believe we can not teach about prayer- the Lord has to do that. He must grant it to us like everything else. I also just read that in your article "The way of Cain"and it confirmed so much the Lord has shown me in the last year: "A man can have nothing unless he receives it from heaven" (John 3:27).
May the Lord continue to lead you and work in you and through you !!

How timely, and how well you have expressed the desire of my heart for the Church of my beloved Lord! Discouragement and defeat are cast out and victory over self really is possible in Him whom my soul loves!
