This is a beautiful message about giving and receiving not of money and services but oneself to the Lord.
One cannot experience Gethsemane or Golgotha like the Lord has gone through. In Gethsemane Jesus was very agonised knowing His hour was up. He asked His Father in Heaven to take the cup away. " "Not my will but yours be done." What a glorious Lord. In Golgotha He was crucifed and bore all the sins of the world. For Peter, John, James, Paul and many others they had a taste of these experiences, but many of us, sadly, we are merely reciting the words, "Not my will but yours be done.",

Morning Brother,
In "Churchianity" this message would go over as a lead baloon...Receiving can be a type of "decreasing". I think most of us would rather be on the giving rather than the receiving end...Recieving requires us to humble ourselves and admit we have a need and that we are dependant in some way. The natural man craves independance from God...Adam and Eve just could not be satisfied with being dependant on God to receive everything from Him, by Him, and according to His Will and timing...The Tree of Life requires receiving everything by FAITH and Trust, without question and understanding...
I sense most of us would prefer to be in control on the giving end rather than having to utilize our faith and trust to be on the receiving end, thus dependant in any way...
We must humble ourselves to receive from the Father and each other...not to be slackers, but in order for our ego, e.g. Self can be decreased.
Gethsemene was and still is a place of crushing, brokenness, and total dependance...It was painful for Jesus; It will be painful to us...
"Lord, meet each of us in our "Gethsemene". Press us until out flows the pure, sweet Wine of Your Spirit and Life."

A second Amen and Amen, Chip!

The call to death to self is-another aspect of the cross life. Gethsemane precedes Calvary and the cross.

Our Gethsemane experience comes when one knows and is making the choice to deny self and take up the cross. As you said, "we give up to God in order to gain, not my will but Your will be done."
Our Gethsemane is that time of prayer and agonizing before the Father--we make that total commitment of our self to Him. Death is painful and death to self life is painful and difficult. Jesus took our place on the cross but now He calls us to take our place and allow self life to be nailed to the cross. "The cross is gaining thru losing." We lose our life and gain His! Praise God!

Amen..and Amen brother
Faith is ONLY and soley an Organ that can "RECIEVE"..it can not be used for "ADDING" Christ to Adam..it can ONLY and SOLEY be used for ACCEPTING..RECIEVING..and YEILDING to the "DECREASE" of Adam under the mighty hand of God.

Thus when used "CORRECETLY" and for the intended purpose God takes care of the "INCREASE" = THE LAW OF THE SPIRT
