We reckon ourselves dead to sin because we ARE dead to sin. We died, not sin. Our death is actual, not positional, because who we are, is who we are in spirit. The dead man in Romans 6 is in the grave, while sin and the law stops at the grave. And a dead man cannot strive or become more like Christ. It’s quite a relief that a dead man cannot live the Christian life and He now lives as us (Gal. 2:20; 1 Cor. 1:30).
