Amen, so true, as the word says, you shall know them by their fruits, I just finished reading a book and it basically said that ‘it is one thing to go and preach the word of God to others, but another thing to ive out the faith

The Father wants us to bear much fruit. I have a small orchard with grapes and fruit trees. Most branches bear fruit. Some will bear more than others and some better fruit than others but all living branches bear fruit. For one reason or another if a branch won’t bear fruit and it’s usually because their connection with the main trunk has been cut off due to damage or disease or insect infestation . They will need special, loving care to recover but if they don’t then they’re not good for anything but to be cut off and burned, just as Christ said. Ridding trees and vines of dead, useless branches actually increases the fruit yield on the rest of the plant. But it’s dangerous to be so preoccupied with fruit that we forget relationship. If we keep the relationship right with the trunk, we’ll have fruit. Maybe it won’t be bountiful or delicious or even full grown every year but there will be fruit. And if we let the Lord continue His pruning and refining process, the fruit will increase.

Amen! One cannot claim Christ and continue to sin without repentance. If one continues to produce and bare bad fruit “sin” they will be cut down and thrown into the fire to be destroyed. For one, God will destroy anybody that continues to claim Him and live falsely and two, He either wants purification by the fire or He eliminates or destroy by fire because He will not be mocked or falsely represented. This should cause each of us to look within to see what tree we are of. The Tree of Life or the tree of death?

In reply to Sally Packer. Amen so true, we can do nothing but Christ in us will take us through each day as we die to self, not my Will Lord but your Will be done. Christ is everything His our patience, Love, Joy, Peace, Victory, we lack for nothing for we are seated with Christ in the Heavenlies. Been born again is a process in Him, abiding in Him, drinking and eating Christ. The Lord sees the heart of man and He will see a heart that desires nothing but Him as our All in All.

I agree it isn’t our “duty” to produce fruit in a religious sense. I don’t see a difference in Scripture between “bearing” and “producing.” The Greek word used is the same: “phero” which means bear, bring forth, produce. The Vine and the branches are one; it says nothing about the Vine producing and the branches bearing. Certainly we abide, live, dwell, continue in Him – and apart from Him we can produce nothing. Yet the simple fact remains that if we are living in Him then we will produce something; we will not live in Him and produce (or bear or bring forth) no fruit. The issue is religion makes “fruit” into “works” and so you are right to point out that bearing fruit is not a duty. Breathing isn’t a duty either; but breathing shows we’re living. Fruit shows we’re abiding. The branch that doesn’t bear fruit is cut off from the Vine. Whether it can be grafted in again after it is cut off is another discussion. Thanks for your comment.
