Ah-h, my Gethsemane experience……….wrestling with surrender vs. self control; love vs. hate; doubts vs.fears; known vs. unknown; familiar vs. unfamiliar, plus so much more that I can’t describe. It’s very intense and I find myself running away in what I can only describe as fear/cowardice. LORD, help me please!

«It is impossible for us to take the cross and not be resurrected.» Thank you for this sentence, it’s encouraging… sometimes it seems that the resurrection does not really want to come…

«looking beyond the present suffering to see the joy that is set before us?» It’s really, really… hard for me to be able to look beyond this suffering… and more difficult to see a future joy. But all you bring me, Chip, helps me and encourages me to do so.

As I read this it AFFIRMED within my spirit that no matter what comes my way thru this life ~
There is no one / where else for me to go but to my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ !
He is the only one with the answers ~ even when I do not know or always get them ~

How we have been duped by the system! Even as a baby Christian I knew what I was being taught about being saved was just too easy…Even then I sensed there had to be more to it…Jesus has been so faithful yet so gentle in teaching me the ways of His Cross…It is my Cross, too, and How I cling to it for it is my Victory unto Victory!!
Who would not want to overcome? Who would not want to share in His Victory?
I have proven Him time and time again…He seems to be even more than He promised to be!!
It’s the only way I have found that gets “me” out of the way.

Hello Chip, You definitely have a way of saying the truth that a person cannot turn away from – speaking the truth in love – that cannot be denied. To kiss the hand of the one who died for me and not begrudge Him for allowing me to go through trials for my own good is to press onward toward the final goal and victory of my salvation. Pressing onward knowing the risks, going through the fire to reach unspeakable joy at the end of this place I’ve called home is where my struggle lies. But I KNOW that I must endure the cross, and so I pray for strength, endurance, His power to overcome all obstacles, so help me God. Thank you for being so honest and helping me on this road to victory. Your words are a great source of inspiration for me.

In reply to Paula. It is both. In some cases, Jesus did something that I do not have to do (like, die on a cross for my sins). But that usually sets me free to then do something I could not do before; in this case, take up the Cross daily and follow Him. Here is a clear explanation of both sides of the issue.

It is the simplicity that makes it so beautiful and able to become a substance in us! This was pointed and “piercing” even! You say things in a pure way.
We hear these teachings among the church, that “Jesus did, so we do not have to…” Pick up our cross sounds conflicting with that, doesn’t it? Is that teaching about “Jesus did, was, bore etc–so we do not have to,” error? I do know that we have to pick up our cross and follow Him because it is scripture but I would like to resolve this other thinking that is always being promoted and get it all in the right perspective.
