Thank you so much for this. I am at this exact point and God has used you to enlighten me on what exactly is happening, and it is particularly eye-opening for me who left organized religion over 2 years ago.

I remember while growing up in faith I so much relied on my feelings, visions and dreams. On day I was on my way to work and I heard the Lord saying “I’m removing myself from your feeling, your dreams and visions. Now you must learn to trust and follow Me by faith”. I thought it was gonna be easy, but when the reality of that word dawned on me, I was literarily dead. My world came down crashing with a loud voice “God, where are you?”. Yet, i thought that was it then until the process of relearning started. I’m still on that till now and I’m not sure I’m gonna get out of that till I see Him face to face.

It hasn’t been easy but it’s an adventure, a life I wont trade for anything in the world.
Thanks for sharing your own story, the adventures you’ve been having on this journey. They are really encouraging..

Thank you so much for this article, Chip! I found it on your site just when I needed it most.

I am in the thick of a difficult, trying time. At first my path seemed so clear; God had spoken to me. I saw signs everywhere that told me His will. It was so clear!!! But the signs have become so subtle now; sometimes there are no signs and I feel alone. Now the trail is dim and I’m unsure.

What encouragement to hear that this is the way God works!! I’ve never heard anyone express these thoughts in such a clear understandable manner – never in a way that I can apply so easily to my own experience. You’ve lightened my heart tonight. I had to express my gratitude to you for this rarely discussed topic Chip. It is comforting to read this writing. Your experience matches my own, and my initial bewilderment and despair in the inability to continue to hear God’s voice, wisdom, etc as I did in the beginning. Indeed, in the beginning it was so audible, strong, unmistakable and clear, whereas now, it is so different. We always hear “If you think God’s changed, guess who moved” – yet I’ve prayed about the ‘change’ assuming it was me and tried everything to restore that voice, that feeling, that surety – to no avail and sometimes to my utter dismay! But like you, I’ve also learned that He does communicate in many different ways, and I am learning to look for His voice in the different ways and channels in which He talks. I think the most important thing in ‘turning the corner’ was to believe Him when He said that He will never leave or forsake me, and to persevere no matter what. I am grateful when I see subtle confirmations that He is faithful to those words. What He’s teaching me is nothing matters more than love. It is God’s love which matters most, not why, who, how, where. So thank you for your encouraging words Chip. It is a blessing to read this.
