If two are made one, then Him being in me is just as important as me being in Him. I don't see it as something to "worry" about, but I think John 17 would read quite differently if we were to give no thought at all to it.

Shouldn't the emphasis be more about Christ being in us. Him in me directs me, comforts me, speaks to me, empowers me
and goes with me. Wouldn't expending energy worrying about my being in Him lead to legalism? Christ in us is the hope of Glory. Being in Him is something taken care of by God before the foundation of the world.

To be with Jesus. It means the difference between being caught up "in service to Him", and to be "abiding daily in His love and Presence". To feel "connected" in Spirit to His Life and Power, or to "sense" Him as a particular need or life challenging situation arises. Would you rather have Christmas or "THE CHRIST OF CHRISTMAS" dwelling in your life constantly? I say all this with tears in my eyes, because I am still learning to be with Jesus daily. Remember, He will never leave or forsake us. But we must learn to "abide" in Him first.

In reply to <a href="https://theschoolofchrist.org/december5#comment-5859">Bobbye Bower</a>.

Bobbye,
I'm not Chip, just a fellow sister and reader of Chips messages. I felt led to give you my answer to your question based on my own testimony, but it may be different for others. I was involved with my church for many many years and have been involved with bible studies, ministries, good works, missionary work, and sacrificial giving. I can honestly say that none of what I mentioned brought me closer to Jesus, because all was outwardness, not inwardness and resting in Him. I look at the story of Mary and Martha. As you know Martha was a worker and Mary was a free spirit and she chose to sit at the Lords feet and gaze up at Him in awe as she rested. The more we pray to the Lord and commune with him as we rest in His presence, you will since His glory, His power, His holiness, His perfection. This is a supernatural element of the power of Gods Spirit that resides in each one of us that have called on Jesus for redemption. He is to be the lover of our souls. The Lord starts to speak through His word and starts to reveil things in the secret place of our heart. This is not something we can try to gain in our own strength, it only by the leading and power of His Spirit that all things are made known to us that are in Christ Jesus. Jesus is the living word of God, so it's in scripture and prayer that all is of Him.

I love your daily reminders of who we are in/for Christ. However, I'm not sure I know what it looks like to "be with" Jesus. I am surrounded by "Christians" who are always busy doing the "work of" Jesus. I am currently in a house church where this is somewhat of a problem. There seems to be (at least to me) a lot of legalism, do this right, do that right. I am not a new Christian, although my journey has taken many turns throughout my life (I am 67 years old). You write often of just "being" with Jesus. Again, could you clarify on just what that looks like? Thank you so much, and may the Lord continue to be with you and to guide you.

Amen to this. What an interesting word. People might be interested to know a word prayed over me 30 years ago and from which I have tried to live my life since with astonishing results. The word was:

"Remember your relationship with Me, is more important than your service for Me. Bestow on me all your love and the total devotion of your heart."

I have always thought of the Lord as the Great Shepherd and being a New Zealander in a country of millions of sheep, think of myself as His sheep dog. He points. I go. He whistles. I come and curl up at His feet till my next order. Simple. As a result have been sent to some really weird places in this world I would never have gone to in the natural. There have been many many different kinds of mission too. At the age of 70 I still listen as I do not believe retirement is in the Lord's plan. If He calls us, He is responsible to enable us to overcome age, poverty, sickness whatever tries to stop us.
It's been one heck of a ride and it's not finished yet.
Bless all who read this and understand.
