I have never heard anything like this preached from the pulpit ! What it really means to "ask amiss" --- my understanding then was that we must ask God for what WE NEED as well as what we WANT -- somehow I knew that did not seem quite right - and seemed selfish -- but was not sure what was wrong with it ---
This is a BEAUTIFUL revelation and understanding -- I DID come to understand we ask God according to HIS will and purposes --
not our own - as Christ did - but this really brings it all together -- the how and the why - of what we ask - and how we ask ---
Now I can more clearly see OTHER teachings - and why they are "off" -- like the name it and claim it - and the prosperity messages -- they are teaching to ask God to supply and bless them and their desires - mostly asking for material things -- when Jesus IS our supply - our all in all ---
I came to know this was not right - but this explains more clearly why they are not right -- many times it is SELF-centered desires for self - rather than Christ-centered desires for Christ --
we need to get our focus OFF self -- and ON Christ ---
And to bringing these three teachings together -- and the similarities between them -- AWESOME -- very revealing -- about WRONG ATTITUDES that many often have -- and how important to "renew our mind" into right thinking --- "RIGHT THINKING LEADS TO RIGHT ACTIONS" !!
Thank you -- this clears up some things -- and helps me immensely ! A small "fog" has been lifted --- ('-') God Bless ---

These examples were such beautiful scriptural pictures of being "Wasted on Jesus". Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."
When you truly delight in Him, Jesus becomes your only desire and He blesses you with more of Him. This is His will for each of his disciples. God bless. Thea

Thank you Chip. Touching on James 4:2-3 we need to remember two things: motivation and Will. I have heard so many preach "ye have not, because ye ask not", which leads people right back into the "it's all about me, ask and receive" prayer. Praying with the RIGHT motivation and according to the will of GOD, are key phrases that continually get left out. Prayer is designed to further the Kingdom of God, but it's mostly taught that is designed to further the kingdom of us. Self-centered prayer will not be answered no matter how much "we ask". Our prayer goal is ALWAYS to accomplish God's mission and not our own. Thank you for yet another straight forward article.
