I think that sometimes God knows that we desire His ways, and He opposes us not because we are proud, but because He is seeing that we are not in His plans and that we are acting like that because we do not know that we can have a relationship with Him that would allow us to hear God for all the things of daily life, this God Who is there on His throne with Christ risen at His side (as a relationship said to me this Sunday). Precisely, I have just meditated a little on Jean 14... but it is difficult, it is hard to explain what I have not totally grasp myself.

Sometimes God will allow us to go on our 'own way', until we find for ourselves that it just doesn't work for us as we believed and thought it would. But we are the one's who resist God's purpose for us. Does God resist us at times? Yes, surely He does; but we always resist His way first. There are numerous examples in scripture of this. Remember Jonah? or the Apostle Paul? or the Prophet Balaam? We learn by our mistakes if were lucky enough to pay heed to them. And like them or not they tell us something all the same. Even when our way is in direct opposition to the LORD; He can still achieve His Will and Purpose through us. We may resist His guidance and even fight His intention; but He will soon get our attention one way or another! May we surrender 'our idea' of how it should be done and seek God's Will, not ours, from the start of each day.

We like to go back to the story of Job when we blame Satan for all the things that come against us, but we know Job was not proud and God knew Job could handle Satan because Job trusted God to intervene for him in his battle. God also said that the proud would not inherit the kingdom of God, so yes God would resist those who refused to conquer the flesh and self will in order to teach us a lesson of humility. Unless we die to self and conquer the flesh we do not make Him our Lord and we are in danger of not entering into His presence and His kingdom. God steps aside to give us time to reevaluate what we want, our will or His will?
