Sherry,
The questions the Holy Spirit has made to you are the same He has been asking me. The passage that has been my constant meditation for the last couple of weeks is Luke 14:25-33, especially that last verse. "So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple." If you put it in the context of the previous verses, one of the things we're called to renounce is soulish ties with family and friends... Even that! Yes, we're called to love them and yet, as you have mentioned, radical obedience and Christlikeness will imply being misunderstood so many times! Because most "Christians" are so in little more than the name. The flesh will rise up in persecution when we're determined to do God's will whatever the cost... and the devil will try to use such moments to instill doubt in us, so that we'll go back to a more comfortable "Christian lifestyle". And the flesh so doesn't want to die! We have such a strong tendency to be people-pleasers, and forget that when we submit to that desire of acceptance BY MEN, we fall into the Matthew 6:1-21 trap!
It really helps to know that we are accepted IN CHRIST. Not because of any inherent good in US, but because HE loved us while we were yet sinners!
May the Holy Spirit strenghten us and build us up according to the only foundation, which is Christ Himself, and the revelation of His cross and ours!

Unfortunately, salvation as preached today results not in death, but in “swooning.” This was so true in my own life and it wasn't until I actually died that I changed. Maybe that was whenI was born from above.

It is right there , when we leave the cross, we are changed, the Holy Spirit changed my heart, I became a child of the most High God, - Michael has died to the world and worldly desires, knowing the WILL AND DOING THE WORD OF MY LORD -is a lifestyle noticed by me and the people around me...

In reply to <a href="https://theschoolofchrist.org/october3#comment-5540">Jackie Kaka</a>.

Yes Jackie without Him we can do nothing. We know that a sacrificed life to Christ is not easy, but with Him all things are possible. This is why Jesus wants His body to receive the power that raised Jesus from the dead, because with this power we too will be raised from the dead to receive our new life. I'm remembering when Jesus was praying to the Father in the garden of Gethsemane where His sweat turned to blood because He was in such agony over what was going to happen to Him. He even ask God could the cup of suffering pass if it be God's will, but right after that He says never the less not My will but Your will be done. After He rose from His prayer He went to His disciples to find them sleeping in their sorrow, He told them to wake up and pray less they enter into temptation. May we follow Him to the fullest, lest we fall into temptation.

This is a message to ponder. Can we read scripture and recall the brutal death of Christ and how he was and still is rejected by the most, especially those that thought they were wise and so obedient to the letter of the law? Does this example of His suffering from pain, agony and rejection, even from the Father, because our sin was place upon Jesus and God had to remove Himself from His only begotten Son at the worst hour possible hour, "MY FATHER, MY FATHER, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME!!!, Christ cried out, and as we know, Jesus completed what He came to do. Are we willing to do the same??? Do we know true sufferings of Christ??? I believe the worst of all pain will be rejection and probably a rejection by those we love the most, if we are truly following His example. I ask again, Are we willing??? To count the cost??? Are we willing to leave it all behind??? Family and friends will reject us, if they have not already died the same death. Are we willing??? If God ask us to sell all we have and give it to the poor and follow Him with nothing but Him, Are we willing??? Have we truly died at the cross??? Do we have great needs with life and health and material things and still carry our cross that gets heavier and heavier, to keep our flesh in the grave. Is the world our footstool because we are seated with Christ??? Are we seated so firmly on the Rock that the world or rejection will not move us??? Are we willing???

Hello Bro Chip,

Thanks for these words above, yes the Cross should represent my own death as well, but the struggle is so big to die to self... and I really wonder if and how people have reached this death. The desire is there but when it really comes to die to self, I prefer to pamper the flesh and fall again and again. Need your intercession to be free from idol called "food". Thank you.
