In reply to grace. In actual practice, I'm not sure there is a big difference between the two terms. We are not literally "crucified" either, yet Jesus says a disciple will "take up their cross daily" and Paul says we "die daily." This death is not literal but is symbolic of a life of self-denial. We never truly die, but the death-attitude is incorporated within the concept of self-denial. Hope this helps.

Chip, I’ve had trouble with, and was taught that we are to DIE daily to sin, but DENY our self (that we can’t DIE to self). Any correction/comment from you is sincerely appreciated.

Hey brother thank you thank you thank you, you have to know that God is using you in my life right now and I can’t thank you enough for speeking the truth .Im not looking for the same ole chevy car salesman to just cell me another chevy .I have no desire to just find some “PREACHER ” to tickle my ears or say what I want to hear or just tell me what to do I strongly believe that it’s truly the Holy Spirit who’s talking here ,if there is no Holy Spirit and if he can’t speak to us we are all doomed and there is no remission of sins .You have hit the spiritual nail right slap dab in the middle of the head for what ever that’s worth I Can Not go back to the religious system way of thinking I truly truly wish I could had heard this stuff many years ago

In reply to chuck selander. The work of Jesus was for our spirit, but the work our daily cross is for our soul. The first was instantly, the second is a process.

Chip, One of my favorite verses is Hebrews 10: 14 “by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. I believe that “has been made perfect forever” by Jesus’ sacrifice–His work on the cross, has qualified us for heaven–not that we are perfect now, but we “are being made holy”. And this is the process of discipleship–which He is also completing in us. Which you refer to in todays reading. But we “are perfect” in the sense that we have been qualified for heaven by His sacrifice. Wonderful News for the one being “made holy.”
