My understanding of tribulation is, "the pressure of circumstances" or as I like to put it, "the trials of everyday life". According to Rom. 5:1-6, the purpose of tribulation is to develop in us a consistent behavior. To me this translates into a genuine and steady attitude as well as actions, no matter what the circumstances may be. In other words we do not loose sight of our relationship with God no matter how dire the situation is.

This means that when things are not going good we are willing to be open;y honest and not fall into denial and pretend it doesn't exist. Neither can we afford to play the "pie in the sky game" and think that no problems will ever beset us.

Much off the problems that happen in many mainline churches are a result of there not being a "safe place". A safe place is a place where a person can be brutally honest about his/or her circumstances and not be rejected by the rest of the body. As of this moment I have never found such a place. I do know that it would take a great deal of time to develop relationships that would be mature enough to handle this. And secondly do we want to become vulnerable enough for this to happen? I will say that I have been able to find a few friends that ove the years we have developed relationships that we are able to share to some degree. Bu this should be prevalent in the entire body.

Remember this, many people will try to convince you that tribulation is a result of some kind of bad or stupid behavior that we have committed and God is punishing us because of it. This is far from being true. Tribulation is simply training us to walk a steady and uncompromising life.

Marcia, we too , as most of these posts; have surrendered our all to Jesus Christ. Sherry has detailed in her past comments the faithfulness of God towards her and her family. I gave up EVERYTHING so that others could have their own lives enriched and fulfilled. God returned my sacrifice back to me with His blessings of a hundred times over my puny wants or needs. He not only meets your needs; HE ABUNDANTLY SURPASSES THEM! My dear sisters, if you could only see what He has in store for you; all your present weeping would instantly be of JOY not sorrow. Let us trust in Him and never give place to Self-pity. Truly, the best is yet to come to you! Timothy

He won't let me go, he has now hedged up my way so that I can go nowhere from this path of surrender. Some days it takes my breath away and I feel Like I am suffocating and yet in the midst of it, I know He is there. Truly He is bringing me through the valley of the shadow of death, but I have now learnt that I need not fear this for he is with me. Like Christ, I am now looking toward the Joy set before me, I am looking to the end, to the time when He will spread a table before me in the presence of my enemies and when He will anoint my head with oil and my cup shall run over.

He has taken and is continuing to take from me every and any thing that I might hold dear and I mean everything! It has been so hard that some days I just want to lay down and die. But, I know Him and I know that what He is doing is greater than anything that I could ever hope for - its for eternity so though He slay me yet will I praise Him for though my outward man perish, my inward man is being renewed daily.

Blessings to all

Chip,
After reading your post, also Lorna and Catalina's post, all that's coming to my mind is "Blessed are those that do not see,yet they believe,John 20v29".I know this scripture is refering to Christ when he first appeared to His diciples and Thomas was questioning, is it really Christ?, but I believe the same could be said for any tribulation we are faced with. Do we believe the promises of God's word, even though we have not seen a break through yet.I believe the more we walk in the flesh trying to solve our own problems or worse yet, trying to solve problems of others, God just steps aside until we hand everything over to Him.I'm so guilty of this, I try to help to much, myself and other's, when I need to be silent and pray. This is why we are worn, torn and defeated. We do things that God did not create us to do or handle. We have made ourself to be our own god and our problems have become idols."Lord, help me to walk by faith and not by sight and forgive my unbelieve".Even in our weakest hour, we have no excuses. As we focus back on Him and not on self, our narrow road to a better future is at hand.Praise the Lord!, this world is not our dwelling place,He is!!!
