SELF-ESTEEM VS. CHRIST-ESTEEM

01. I Must Decrease

“Not I, but Christ.” (Gal. 2:20).

Before we will cry out for a Savior, we must have some sense that we need saving from something and that we cannot save ourselves. This requires having our eyes and ears opened to see and hear the truth. Only when I accept this reality will I then trust Someone Else to do the saving. Only when I stop trying to save myself will I start trusting in a Savior. Godly sorrow leads to repentance, but it is the revelation of the futility of Self that makes repentance and the subsequent revolution possible: “Not I, but Christ.”
